The Brief: Travel Partnerships 🤝 Micro-Influencers
There’s a misconception around needing a huge following before you’re paid to travel. This could not be further from the truth! This week, I’m introducing you to Tamra Bow of @global.and.beyond.travel – a travel content creator and student of The Influencer Mastercourse.
As part of our ongoing Behind the Brand Partnership series, Tamra pulls back the curtain and reveals exactly how she started getting paid to travel before having a huge following (and how you can too)!
Key Takeaways ⬇️
- Don’t wait to start pitching
- Focus on refining your craft
- Oversaturation is a myth
- Commit to consistency
Tamra’s Success Timeline & Breakdown
It’s easy to think that getting paid to travel is reserved only for those with real motion on their accounts. Generally speaking, travel collaborations are more costly than PR packages and product posts.
👉 But that doesn’t mean tourism boards, airlines, and hotels aren’t willing to work with nano and micro-influencers, even UGC creators!
As you can see today, Tamra’s grown her account to over 100k followers. But her journey started way before. She joined The Influencer Mastercourse in late 2023, and a few short months later, she accomplished some incredible wins:
🎉 Landed her first tourism board collaboration with Thailand Tourism with under 1,000 followers
🎉 Formed an ongoing partnership with Accor (one of the largest hotel companies in the world)
🎉 Signed her first paid trip to the Great Barrier Reef with an Australian airline & Aussie airport
🎉 Turned a gifted partnership with a clothing brand into a $2000 collaboration
And very recently, Tamra had a “pinch me” partnership, locking in two separate tourism partnerships, both worth 5 figures, booked by Universal Studios Japan for an all-expenses-paid trip.
Tamra’s Actionable Advice to Land Your First Travel Opportunity
My team asked Tamra for her best advice when it comes to shooting your shot (and landing it) as an aspiring travel content creator. As someone who has found wild success on social media in recent years, here are some invaluable takeaways to apply to your own journey, directly from Tamra:
1️⃣ What helped me land paid partnerships early on was to start reaching out to brands/hotels/tourism boards right away! I was pitching to tourism boards, tour operators, and even airlines. That’s how we landed our first tourism collaboration really early on.
2️⃣ The market being too saturated or that you need hundreds of thousands of followers to be successful is a myth. Especially when it comes to UGC. If you focus on refining your craft, pitching with clarity and purpose, and delivering high-quality content, the opportunities will come. It’s only April, and we already have a partnership lined up for every month this year, travelling internationally at least every six weeks. That’s something I never would’ve believed was possible before taking this course.
3️⃣ Stay consistent. I committed to posting 1 reel a day and rarely skipped for almost a year. That helped me to hone my skills and figure out how to create beautiful content that resonated with brands.
4️⃣ Load your captions with as much info as you possibly can! Saveable and shareable content is what will get your posts out there.
5️⃣ For new creators, don’t be afraid to experiment! Try every possible thing available to you before deciding on your niche and on your Instagram technique.
