One of the biggest challenges that content creators of all sizes face is productivity. Specifically, finding the time to create content consistently and sticking to it. If you’ve ever struggled to create content consistently, you’re not alone. Whether you’re just starting out or already deep into the content game, staying consistent can feel like a full-time job. And if you don’t have a system to keep you on track, the idea of creating content can be incredibly overwhelming. But here’s the truth: consistency isn’t about hustle—it’s about strategy. In this guide, I’m breaking down 6 actionable steps to help you create content consistently. These steps are tried-and-true productivity hacks that I use in my own business. They’re also proven productivity hacks that CEOs and other creatives swear by. Let’s begin!

A 6 step guide to creating content consistently

Step 1: Measure Your Time and Where You’re Spending It

Before you can create content consistently, you need to know where your time is going. Surprisingly, 82% of people don’t use any time management system at all, which means they’re often unaware of how their hours are spent.

If you’ve heard the saying, “You can’t manage what you don’t measure,” you probably already know where I’m going with this. So often, when we believe we don’t have enough time to get things done, it’s because we’re wasting it in different ways that we aren’t aware of. Whether it’s dilly-dallying as you’re getting ready for your day, or if you spend hours before bed scrolling on your phone – these are opportunities where you could start taking small, actionable steps towards your goals.

Start by tracking your time for a week. I know it may be tedious, but trust me, it’ll be worth it. Tools like Toggl or RescueTime will be incredibly helpful in this process. I highly recommend using a dedicated time tracking tool instead of your iPhone’s clock so that you can be more intentional and organized about the process.

Step 2: Find Hidden Pockets of Time

Once you’ve identified where your time goes, look for hidden pockets that can be repurposed and redirected for content creation. For instance, the average person spends about 2 hours and 23 minutes on social media daily. Even reallocating 30 minutes of that time can significantly boost your productivity. It doesn’t mean that you have to give up on scrolling entirely. You just have to be intentional about how you’re spending it. Sure, you can continue scrolling for 23 minutes a day, while allocating the other 2 hours to actually creating content.

By optimizing these hidden time slots, you can create content consistently without overhauling your entire schedule. Remember, it’s about small, consistent actions over an extended period of time, not about finding an additional 8 hours a day that you don’t have.

Step 3: Align Your Time with Your Energy

Creating content consistently isn’t just about time management; it’s also about energy management. Identify when you’re most alert and creative during the day and schedule your content creation tasks during these peak periods.

For example, if you find that you’re most creative in the mornings, allocate that time for brainstorming and writing. Reserve afternoons for administrative tasks or engagement with your audience. This alignment ensures that you’re working with your natural rhythms, making it easier to create content consistently.

This is the key to optimizing your time simply by following your natural rhythms. If you aren’t a morning person, scheduling a lot of creative work then will feel like pushing a heavy boulder up a steep hill. Instead, take note of your moods and natural inclinations and schedule your content tasks accordingly.

Step 4: Prioritize and Set Boundaries

To create content consistently, it’s crucial to prioritize your tasks and set boundaries. Start by identifying high-impact activities that align with your goals. Then, set boundaries to protect your time and energy.

For instance, designate specific times for checking emails or engaging on social media, and stick to them. Communicate your availability to clients or collaborators to manage expectations. By setting these boundaries, you create a structured environment that supports consistent content creation.

When you work for yourself, it’s easy to keep your boundaries flexible. You can either forgo your tasks because you didn’t feel like doing them, or you could overwork yourself and lead yourself to burn out. Once you find your peaks from step 3, you can start to form your priorities and boundaries around your to-do list.

Step 5: Batch Similar Tasks

Task batching is a productivity technique where you group similar tasks together and complete them in dedicated time blocks. This approach minimizes task switching and allows you to enter a state of focused flow, enhancing your ability to create content consistently.

For example, dedicate one day to writing captions, another to filming Reels, and another to scheduling posts, instead of hopping from task to task. The reason why you’ll want to do that is because a lot of time is wasted as you switch between tasks. On top of that, you’re also forced to adjust to the new task at hand in a short span of time. Task batching will streamline your time and help you stay focused on the same creative task so that you can get more done in less time.

Step 6: Reassess and Improve

Consistency doesn’t mean rigidity. Regularly reassess your strategies and workflows to identify what’s working and what isn’t. Just like how you’ll use analytical tools to track the performance of your content and adjust your approach accordingly, you’ll want to do the same with your content schedule.

That’s because it’s one thing to set up a system, another entirely to put it into practice. Give it at least two weeks, but a month is ideal. Then revisit this content schedule you’ve created for yourself. Is it working for you? Or is there something else that you can switch around that’ll work better for you?

Wrapping Up

Creating content consistently is achievable with the right strategies and tools. By measuring your time, finding hidden pockets, aligning tasks with your energy, setting boundaries, batching tasks, and continuously improving, you can build a sustainable content creation process. Remember, consistency is key to growing your audience and achieving your content goals.

Now, take a moment to assess your current workflow and identify one area where you can implement these strategies. Start small, stay consistent, and watch your content creation process transform. Happy creating!
